On Tour With Dridgers (#OTWD), a British travel couple, shares their surprising first 24 hours in Nanjing, China. Their journey begins with a visit to a viral, multi-level luxury mall toilet, a unique experience showcasing China's blend of modern amenities and ancient culture. Each floor boasts a different theme, from luminous lights and mirrors to a tranquil, plant-filled space. A highlight is a pianist serenading visitors in one of the uniquely themed restrooms.
Next, #OTWD explores Nanjing's rich history and culinary scene. They visit the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum, the tomb of the first Ming Dynasty emperor and his wife, navigating a secret, local entrance that bypasses the main tourist route. Their knowledgeable guide, Andy, shares fascinating details about the mausoleum's history and symbolism, including the significance of the animals depicted along a secret path.
The vlog then takes viewers on a culinary adventure, featuring a meal at a renowned restaurant serving traditional Nanjing cuisine. They sample a variety of dishes, including duck blood tofu (a surprisingly palatable experience for Dridgers), lion's head meatballs, and various types of duck. The food is beautifully presented, and the restaurant's atmosphere is lively and engaging. The experience is further enhanced by traditional Chinese music and the lively interactions of the restaurant staff.
The day concludes with a visit to the Nanjing Museum, one of China's largest and oldest museums. Their guide's special access allows them to bypass the long queues, providing a privileged view of the museum's extensive collection of cultural relics. They marvel at ancient artifacts, including a 100,000-year-old elephant fossil, a 7,000-year-old kettle, and a remarkably preserved collection of portrait bricks. The sheer scale and historical significance of the museum leave a lasting impression on #OTWD. The vlog concludes with reflections on their incredible day, emphasizing the warmth and helpfulness of their tour guides and the unique blend of ancient history and modern energy that makes Nanjing such a captivating city. The video ends with plans for a relaxing massage, a well-deserved reward after a day of exploration and discovery.
