From the moment Malin and Jakob arrived in Shanghai, they were struck by how green, quiet, and clean the city felt compared to Vietnam. The electric scooters glided silently, making the streets feel almost peaceful. Their first stop, Yu Garden, was bustling with tourists from Italy and Spain, but they quickly escaped to the local neighborhoods they truly loved. They hunted down viral Instagram spots, including Matcha Wang with its adorable sheep latte art and the famous Teddy Bear Cafe. The pistachio latte at Mietal Hands was just okay, but the matcha at Matcha Wang genuinely impressed them with its vanilla bean sweetness. Staying connected in China required specific apps like Amap, DiDi, WeChat, and Alipay. The Wi-Fi was unreliable, but Holafly's eSIM with built-in VPN saved them, keeping them online across Instagram and YouTube. They also stumbled upon a stunning cherry blossom season that followed their planned route through Seoul and Japan. The Jing'an Temple dazzled with gold details, and the surrounding creative park offered cool brand hubs. The Louis Vuitton flagship store and the world's largest Starbucks roastery were unexpected highlights. Malin found Butterful and Creamorous bakery by accident, scoring a matcha croissant. Along Nanjing Road, the world's longest shopping street, they enjoyed the calm of People's Park, marveling at how Shanghai balanced 30 million people with lush green spaces. Wukang Road reminded them of Tokyo's Shibuya, with crowds snapping photos of a famous building. For their final night, they watched the sunset at the north Bund, then feasted on duck with caviar at Yongxing and dumplings at Lailai Xiao Long. The futuristic No.3 Warehouse restaurant delivered more spectacle than flavor, while the Zzer outlet for pre-loved designer goods was a paradise. They ended at Manner Coffee for one last skyline view. Shanghai completely won them over.
Shanghai surprised Malin and Jakob at every turn. From the quiet hum of electric scooters to the stunning cherry blossoms, the city blends modern energy with peaceful green spaces. They explored viral spots like Matcha Wang and the Teddy Bear Cafe, but found real magic in local neighborhoods and the Bund at sunset. A must-see for curious travelers.
Malin and Jakob explore Shanghai's vibrant streets, viral cafes, and serene parks, finding a perfect blend of modernity and local charm.
