We used our translation app! I had my request for layers and face-framing pre-typed, and we just passed the phone back and forth to communicate.
What was the hair wash experience actually like?
It was completely different from home! Instead of leaning back in a chair, you lie down on a proper bed. They give you a double shampoo and a full head massage that feels like a complete spa treatment.
Was the salon staff surprised by your hair color?
Yes, they were super fascinated! My ginger hair is a natural color that is very rare in China. The lady cleaning up the hair off the floor couldn't stop laughing at the color difference between my hair and everyone else's.
How much did the haircut cost in total?
It was 150 RMB for the whole thing—the wash, cut, and blow-dry. That works out to be about 15 pounds or 20 dollars. Such amazing value for the level of service!
Would you recommend getting a haircut in China?
Absolutely! It was a fantastic experience. The service was so attentive, and the skill of the chief stylist was top-notch. It is a really fun way to connect with local culture and get a great look at the same time.
