I took my mum on a luxury holiday to Beijing China. China has been a culture shock for her but she's loved it. We experienced everything Beijing has to offer and managed to tick off a lifelong dream at the Great Wall of China and it was incredible.
Kieran Brown traded solo adventures for a luxury escape to Beijing—with his mum in tow. What follows is a heartwarming culture-shock journey through China's capital, from its overwhelming energy to its timeless wonders. Together they experience everything Beijing has to offer, culminating in a once-in-a-lifetime moment at the Great Wall of China. It's not just a holiday; it's a mother-son milestone filled with awe, laughter, and a lifelong dream checked off the list.

Kieran Brown's latest adventure is not the usual solo mission. He brought his mum, Michelle, along for a luxury four-day stay in Beijing, and the result is a warm, witty and wonderfully surprising travel film. From the moment a Mercedes VIP transfer pulls up and they check into the JW Marriott Beijing Central, it is clear this is a different side of China. Michelle, who has already spent days in the country, admits Beijing is nothing like she imagined: modern, stylish, and buzzing with energy. Kieran, returning for his third visit, is finally getting to explore the capital, and his excitement is contagious.
One of the first stops is a traditional Peking duck restaurant, where the chef carves each bird into exactly 108 pieces right beside the table. Kieran had waited years to try the dish in Beijing, and it exceeds every expectation. Michelle, a vegetarian, watches with amusement before they head to a Peking Opera performance with front-row VIP tickets. Expecting something formal, they discover an unexpectedly hilarious, acrobatic show. The evening ends with lanterns glowing around them, and Kieran declares the whole experience 100% worth recommending.
The next day, the pair visits the Summer Palace, an old Qing Dynasty retreat with lotus-filled lakes and the Guinness World Record-holding longest art gallery corridor, stretching over 790 meters. They sample plum lychee juice and Chinese bayberries, small discoveries that make the trip feel authentic. Later, a traditional afternoon tea at the hotel turns out to be a lavish spread of tiramisu, scones, spring rolls and sugarcoated strawberries. Kieran admits he has never done high tea before, but the collaboration with the JW Marriott and Visit Beijing takes the whole experience to another level.
Beijing also shows a cool, creative side. In the 798 Art District, old coal factories have been transformed into a hipster haven filled with graffiti, galleries, cafes and restaurants. They even find a grapefruit Americano, a bizarre but strangely refreshing drink. Rain does not stop them from exploring the Forbidden City, where Kieran is amazed by the scale: over 900 buildings and 9,000 rooms. The efficiency of the Chinese staff, who sweep away the rain almost immediately, leaves an impression too.
The highlight, of course, is the Great Wall. They take a boat and then a gondola to a section where the Wall meets the water, a stunning, less-crowded spot. Kieran finally takes his first steps on the Great Wall of China, and both he and Michelle are emotional. Michelle says it is beyond her expectations, and Kieran describes it as the most aesthetic place he has ever had a coffee. With his mum declaring Beijing her favorite Chinese city so far, the vlog ends with a heartfelt goodbye to a destination that completely surprised them.
In this Beijing edition, Kieran Brown trades solo travel for a mother-son luxury escape, taking his mum Michelle to China's capital. From front-row Peking Opera seats and a legendary Peking duck dinner to the art-filled 798 District and jaw-dropping Great Wall views, they discover a modern, friendly city that shatters decades-old stereotypes. With JW Marriott perks and a private guide, it's a heartfelt, hilarious adventure proving Beijing deserves a spot on every traveler's list.
Kieran and his mum explore Beijing's culture, luxury stays, Peking duck and the Great Wall, discovering a modern, friendly city full of surprises.

What was the most surprising moment?
Peking Opera. I thought it would be a bit boring, but it was hilarious and full of acrobatics. I'd 100% recommend it.
