Katherine's parents traveled from the US to China for an unforgettable three-week adventure, and this live stream captures the chaos and joy of their journey. The stream kicks off with technical hiccups and playful banter about Katherine's husband A-Stone taking forever to get ready, but quickly dives into the highlights of their epic Sichuan exploration.

One of the most memorable moments was on Mount Emei, where a monkey staged a perfectly executed heist, snatching a bag of milk tea from a tourist, climbing up her leg, and drinking it all in one smooth motion. Katherine's parents were captivated by the blue pools of Jiuzhaigou, which they described as absolutely spectacular, walking 12 miles through the park to soak in every view. The family also biked 25 km on Chengdu's famous Greenbelt, a 100 km ring of parks and greenways around the city, with A-Stone's parents who hadn't ridden a bike in 20 years proving that you never forget how.

Katherine's in-laws from Kashgar, Xinjiang, joined the adventure too, experiencing their first bullet train, metro ride, and airplane flight. The cultural exchange was rich, from eating Uyghur hand-pulled noodles (laghman) every single day by request, to discovering that Chengdu has more cosplayers than anywhere else. Katherine's parents marveled at the cleanliness of Chinese cities and the incredible infrastructure, especially the bullet trains that can pave a road in two days versus a month in the US.

Amidst the fun, there were real challenges too. Katherine opened up about the heartbreaking reality of US visa rejections for her husband, despite having a valid invitation letter from her parents. The stream also touched on future plans, including raising kids in China, the education system there versus in the US, and their desire to visit the 'Stan countries, especially Uzbekistan, which shares deep cultural ties with the Uyghur people. Through it all, the love between Katherine, her parents, A-Stone, and his family was palpable, making this a truly heartwarming cross-cultural family reunion.

Traveler Katherine's parents conquered their fear of flying to explore Sichuan's wild wonders with her. American Family Explores Sichuan: Pandas, Monkeys & Jiuzhaigou
3:35 Visit Mount Emei on a weekday and stay overnight to catch the monkeys in the afternoon. The next morning, you'll have a chance to see the famous cloud sea from the cable car before the crowds arrive.
8:52 Rent public share bikes instead of a bike shop for a flexible family ride. You can drop them anywhere and take the metro back, perfect for groups with unpredictable stamina.
1:06:23 Go to Bifengxia in Ya'an for the best panda experience. Arrive early on a weekday after a holiday for near-empty enclosures and active pandas climbing trees and eating.
1:07:50 If you travel with elders, use the elevators and cable cars available at Chinese parks. They allow everyone to enjoy nature, including those with mobility issues.
1:32:00 Travel with folding bikes like Dahon for bike tours. If something breaks, you can fold the bike, take a taxi or subway to a repair shop, and get it fixed quickly.

family travelsichuan travelpanda experiencemount emei monkeysjiuzhaigou national parkchinese culturetravel with parentsuyghur cuisine中国高铁Were the monkeys on Mount Emei really that aggressive?
Yes, they were real! We saw a monkey grab a whole bag of milk tea from a lady, climb up her leg, and then drink it all. It was a targeted attack by a milk tea addicted monkey.
What was your favorite place in China during this trip?
My favorite is Jiuzhaigou. The blue pools were absolutely stunning. We walked 12 miles that day and saw everything we could.
Why did you choose Chengdu for your parents to visit?
We chose Chengdu because it's a direct flight from the US, super green and lush, and close to pandas and mountains. It ended up being a perfect base for my parents.
Are you trying again for a US visa for your husband?
That's a tough one. The US visa system is really frustrating. We know people who are even more qualified than us who got rejected. So we're not trying again for now.
