Vanessa Huang's day trip from Chengdu to Dujiangyan begins with the mission to see a place that looks 'too good to be true' on social media. She starts at a nearly abandoned mall, which houses a spectacular, futuristic bookstore that is crowded with people taking photos. After a quick lunch at Dicos, she explores the area while waiting for sunset. At Yangtianwo Square, she poses with a giant panda statue and grabs a cheap coconut latte. The heart of her exploration is the Guanxian Ancient City, a massive old street filled with lanterns, food stalls, and a lively atmosphere.

Vanessa highlights unique details like a grandfather pedaling a bike with his hands, the intense flavor of Changsha stinky tofu, and the flaky, satisfying beef cake she buys from a long line. As darkness falls, the main attraction finally appears: the 'Blue Tears' river, which is lit up with blue lights, giving the ordinary waterway a magical, intergalactic character. Vanessa notes that the blue color comes from Zui Tao Gou and shares a history lesson about the ancient South Bridge. She concludes her day feeling that the trip was incredibly affordable, with no entrance fees for any of the attractions, and highly recommends it as a budget-friendly day trip from Chengdu.
Vanessa journeyed from Chengdu to Dujiangyan for a day trip and discovered the now-famous 'Blue Tears' river. She first explored a magnificent, yet remarkably empty mall, leading to an incredible bookstore. Wandering through the ancient streets of Guanxian, she found a vibrant night market full of local food and colorful lanterns, ending her evening with the magical glowing blue river that lives up to its viral fame.
Vanessa takes a train from Chengdu to Dujiangyan to see the viral Blue Tears river, discovering a surreal bookstore, ancient streets, and lively night markets.

You take a train from Xipu Railway Station to Dujiangyan Station, and the ride only takes about 8 to 10 minutes.
What were the sweet potato noodles like?
We didn't try them, but we did try the Changsha stinky tofu, which was very flavorful but a little too salty.
What was the most surprising thing you found?
Probably the $1 haircut and the fact that I didn't need a ticket to enter the Zhu-long cave! Also, seeing a grandfather pedaling a bike with his hands was super unique.
