海岳开襟建于水池中，台基为圆形，上下两层，汉白玉石凭栏围绕。台上建3层楼宇，下层为海岳开襟，南檐题"青瑶屿"3字；中层为得金阁，题"天心水面"4字；最上层题"乘六龙"3字；台的四面各设牌楼一座。在圆明园的所有楼阁中，这组建筑最为豪华。

1747年（乾隆十二年）建成。长春园西湖中筑砌直径近百米的圆式白石崇基，正楼为四面各显五间的四出轩式三层楼阁，外侧对称布置配殿、牌坊、方亭和圆廊，是一处辉煌端庄的建筑景观。1860年圆明园罹劫时，海岳开襟一景因在湖中免遭焚毁，1900年毁于战乱之中。
{Built in 1747 (12th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign), in the middle of the West Lake in Chang-chunyuan, this site presented a grand architectural spectacle in the garden. Its round foundation was built of marble with a diameter of nearly 100 meters. The major vista was a three-story building, with symmetrical chambers, archways, square pavilions, and corridors. This sight survived the 1860 fire due to its location in the middle of the lake, but was destroyed in the war chaos of 1900.}
