Our 2000km road trip through Yunnan, China has been AWESOME! Our itinerary maybe is a little ambitious, but so far we've made it to every destination. And some of them have been unforgettable. In this video we saw Impressions of Lijiang and Blue Moon Valley, both at Yulong Snow Mountain. On any normal road trip, Impressions of Lijiang would've been the highlight of the entire trip. It's a grand performance, put on by 500 local people, with the backdrop of the mountains. It's really special. BUT! China has so much to offer, and Yunnan is such a great road trip destination, that the very next day we found something even more impressive and memorable.
Of course we're talking about Baoshan Stone Village. The thing about China is: they do a great job of making tourist attractions out of historic places. The history is everywhere, and they're great at integrated technology and lights to showcase how ancient and important things are. This is what makes Baoshan so special: It's the real deal. No lights, no modern installations, just a ~1200 year old village set on the side of a mountain. Something like 100 families live here and are more or less self-sustaining. Talk about a unique place to live. Walking through the narrow passageways barely big enough to squeeze a donkey through (everything in the village is brought in on a donkey) you really feel like you're in a different world. This is a travel experience that we will remember forever. Next, we went to to Tiger Leaping Gorge, and again, wow! The history (myth?) here is that a tiger leaped 25 meters over the gorge to avoid some hunters, hence the name. It's a beautiful place where the power of the water is unbelievable. They even have escalators on the way down, which was great for us because we are getting tired on this busy trip! The last thing worth mentioning is...

The JetLag Warriors team embarked on a 14-day, 2000km road trip through Yunnan province, driving a hybrid BYD. Their journey began at a cozy cabin near Yulong Snow Mountain, where they explored Blue Moon Valley. The iconic mountain peak was mostly hidden by clouds, but the turquoise waters and scenic pathways, crowded with wedding photos, still impressed. The highlight of the day was the 'Impressions of Lijiang' show, a massive outdoor performance directed by the 2008 Beijing Olympics ceremony director. Five hundred local, non-professional performers showcased authentic mountain culture, from horse riding on cliffs to traditional singing, creating a 360-degree spectacle against the mountain backdrop.

From there, the team drove deeper into the mountains. They experienced a tense, narrow road to reach Baoshan Stone Village, a 1200-year-old settlement built into the mountainside. This was no tourist trap; it was a living, self-sustaining community of about 100 families. All goods are brought in by donkey, as cars cannot enter the village. The family-run guesthouse offered farm-to-table meals, including a surprising dish of mint and crispy pork, grown right in the backyard. Walking through the stone pathways, past homes and gardens, the team felt a profound connection to the authentic Chinese lifestyle.

The final leg took them to Tiger Leaping Gorge, a legendary canyon where the river's power was overwhelming. They rode a series of escalators down to the viewing platform, a convenient surprise for the family. The roar of the water was therapeutic, drowning out even the sound of tinnitus. The team reflected on their journey, highlighting the raw, unpolished reality of Baoshan Stone Village as the standout experience, even above the impressive show. The video ends with a teaser for their next destination: the mythical city of Shangri-La.
JetLag Warriors traded tourist traps for raw, authentic China. From the grand 500-person mountain show to the 800-year-old stone village where donkeys haul building materials, this Yunnan road trip was a masterclass in genuine experiences. They drove a BYD up terrifying cliffs, ate mint pork from a family garden, and stood humbled by the roaring Tiger Leaping Gorge. This is the real deal.
