Originally created as China's first Economic Zone, Shenzhen received a lot of funding for tech innovation. In the decades to come, companies like DJI, Huawei, Tencent and BYD, all got their start in this young city before becoming HUGE international monoliths. In my opinion, Shenzhen is one of the most interesting places to visit in China, so I hope this video will give you some ideas of what to see and do :)

Shenzhen is a city that simply didn't exist five decades ago. Today, it's a massive, modern mega-city home to 17 million people, having been established as a special economic zone in 1980. Alina Mcleod set out to explore this hub of innovation, a place that birthed global tech giants like DJI, Huawei, and BYD. She started her journey in the Fu Qian district before heading to Huaqiangbei, a legendary electronics market where you can find nearly any gadget imaginable.

The heart of the video is a tech-focused tour Alina booked. In Talent Park, she witnessed a drone delivering bubble tea and used a robot to make coffee, marveling at the convenience and low cost. At Inno 100, a showroom for cutting-edge inventions, she tried on an exoskeleton that assists with walking and saw translation glasses that display subtitles in real time. The most thrilling moment was a ride in a driverless car, which navigated city streets smoothly and safely, a true testament to the city's technological prowess.

Alina's tour also included the flagship stores of DJI, Xiaomi, and Huawei, where she saw commercial drones used for agriculture and firefighting. She notes that buying electronics like cameras or drones is cheaper for tourists thanks to tax-free shopping. The video concludes with Alina exploring the older Nantou district with a friend, where they enjoyed unique local foods like a coconut-based soup and a coconut chicken hot pot. Her friend Bianca summed up the experience, calling Shenzhen a 'future city'—immaculately clean, expansive, and a perfect showcase of modern China.

Probably the drone delivery of bubble tea and the driverless taxi. It's amazing how seamlessly they work in daily life.
How much did the drone delivery cost?
For two drinks with delivery, it was about $7 US. I even used a coupon, so it was incredibly cheap.
