Hello friends!! I stumbled upon this insane looking hot pot spa on my feed a few months ago... A bright red, giant, spicy bath featuring real chili peppers. And once I saw it, I knew I had to find it, and bathe in it. That took us all the way to the Maple Leaf Hot Springs Resort in Harbin, China—which I think, with its 38 different themed baths, definitely counts as a 'spa theme park'!!
We started with Harbin Ice City in the summer, then spent our days exploring the resort's many pools and experiences. Highlights included THE hot pot bath, Confucian Thinking Pools, tea time with a Garra Rufa fish pedicure, the Crystal Jelly Pool, a Voolga skincare bath, outdoor pools, the Caracalla Pool, Leisure and Beauty Pools, Chinese Herbal Pools, a Northeast Chinese body scrub and popsicles, Four Beauties Pools, and saunas. It was a wonderfully weird and relaxing spa adventure.
What happens when a viral clip of a bright red chili-pepper bath sends you across the world? Safiya Nygaard followed that exact craving to Harbin, China, and found Maple Leaf Village Hot Springs Resort—a true spa theme park with 38 themed baths. In this video, she and Tyler wander through Harbin Ice City in summer, soak in a hot pot bath, try fish pedicures with tea, lounge in jelly and skincare pools, explore Chinese herbal baths, and finish with a Northeast Chinese body scrub and popsicles. It’s an absurd, relaxing, and utterly unforgettable spa adventure.

Safiya and Tyler make a short trip to Harbin for Maple Leaf Hot Springs Resort, a large spa complex with more than 38 themed pools. They first visit Harbin’s indoor summer ice exhibit; the winter ice city is not open because they came in May. At the resort, they try the split hot pot bath: the red peppers are plastic, while the green peppers are real, and they report tingling toes and mild irritation after touching their face. The tour continues through the cooler eggplant-and-orange bath, three Confucian-themed pools, five teas, a fish pedicure they choose to skip, and the Crystal Jelly Bath. They also try a Voolga skincare bath, an outdoor herbal pool, the room-temperature Caracalla Pool and its jets and rentable water toys, milk and rose baths, three herbal pools, a body scrub, four beauty-themed pools, and saunas including volcanic-rock and Himalayan-salt rooms. Some outdoor facilities are not filled yet in the spring, and they do not finish every pool before closing. They recommend the spa if visiting Harbin, while noting that English may be difficult to use there.
Safiya and Tyler travel to Harbin for a day at Maple Leaf Hot Springs Resort, which they describe as a spa theme park with more than 38 themed pools. They try the hot pot bath, tea and fish-pedicure area, Crystal Jelly Pool, skincare and outdoor baths, massage jets, herbal and beauty pools, a body scrub, and several saunas. Their May visit falls outside the outdoor pool season; the red peppers in the hot pot bath were plastic, while the green peppers were real.

Harbin Hot Pot Spa and Themed Pools at Maple Leaf Resort
5:06 The winter ice city is seasonal: Safiya says it had melted during their May visit, although an indoor summer ice exhibit was open. Check which Harbin ice attractions are operating for your dates before building an itinerary around them.
8:37 The hot pot bath has a spicy side and a milky side. Safiya reports that the green peppers are real and can irritate skin; she felt a burn after scratching her face, so keep your face out of the water.
17:04 Many outdoor areas were not filled during Safiya’s spring visit because summer had not started. If you want the outdoor swimming pool, check the season and operating status before visiting; one outdoor hot pool was open during their visit.
18:21 The Caracalla Pool has jets and loungers, and the resort rents water toys including mini sea bobs. Ask about rental availability and costs on site; Tyler tried a sea bob in the pool during their visit.
23:38 The resort’s cafe had only popsicles available late in the evening during this visit. Safiya says food choices are usually broader in peak season and on weekends, so check meal options and hours if you plan to eat there.
29:14 Safiya says Harbin can be harder to navigate if you do not speak Mandarin and that people there also speak Russian. Plan for a language barrier, especially when arranging transport or asking staff for help.
