Kieran begins a three-week trip through China with his mother, arriving in Chengdu, Sichuan. They take a Didi ride from the airport; the app shows an estimated 45-minute trip during rush hour, and Kieran chooses a premium car. They stay for two days at the Seya Hotel, which he says is centrally located. Their suite has a dining table, espresso machine, washing machine, projector screen, separate sleeping areas and a view of the city. They visit the Global Center, which Kieran describes as the world's largest building by floor area at about 1.7 million square meters and compares to roughly 20 Sydney Opera Houses. The complex includes shops, restaurants, a cinema, an indoor water park and an area with a beach. They eat at Space Lab, a restaurant with robot servers, and Kieran tries steak. The next morning, they go to see pandas in heavy rain. Kieran says pandas are most active early and that the center is also a rehabilitation and research center. The rain is torrential, the ground floods and crowds make it hard to take photos; they see two pandas and leave early. That evening, they attend a Sichuan hot-pot dinner with traditional-style dress, seven courses and seven performances. The meal is interactive, and the family sitting beside them helps them understand the dishes and chopsticks. Later, they visit an older part of Chengdu, try prickly-pear juice and take Kieran's mother for a traditional ear-cleaning treatment. Kieran says he enjoyed Chengdu more than expected and plans to continue to Chongqing the next day.
Kieran travels to Chengdu with his mother for a visit that combines city attractions, local food and family time. They take a Didi ride from the airport and stay at the Seya Hotel, where their suite has a dining area, washing machine and city view. At the Global Center, they visit a robot-served restaurant and explore the mall's shops, cinema and indoor water park. The next day, heavy rain complicates their visit to a panda center; they see two pandas and leave with soaked shoes. They also try a costumed Sichuan hot-pot dinner with performances, sample prickly-pear juice in the older part of the city and get a traditional ear-cleaning treatment for his mother.
Kieran takes his mother around Chengdu for a robot-served meal, a rainy panda visit, Sichuan hot pot and local street stops.
