Join Luke Hyde on a whirlwind tour of Hong Kong, blending city energy with unexpected natural escapes. The adventure begins with a classic local breakfast: French toast, bolo bun, and milk tea at the famous Lan Pong Wen diner, all for just 81 Hong Kong dollars. Filled up, Luke tackles the Mid-Levels escalator system, the world's longest outdoor covered escalator, learning a fun fact from a local friend: it's designed to help residents commute on the steep hills, reversing direction at different times of day. Instead of taking the tram, Luke decides on a far more thrilling route—a direct, steep climb up Victoria Peak. This path is not for the faint of heart, featuring 80-degree inclines and rough terrain, but it's made easier by helpful handrails and offers jaw-dropping views of the city and harbor. After reaching the Peak Lookout, Luke enjoys the 3 km Peak Circle Walk, marveling at how hiking trails are seamlessly woven into the urban landscape. The journey continues via the Peak Tram down, then the MRT to Diamond Hill, where Luke discovers what he calls “one of the most beautiful gardens I’ve ever seen.” The trip ends with a serene walk along Victoria Harbor and a stop at the Bruce Lee statue, a personal highlight that brings back childhood inspiration. Throughout, Luke’s authentic interactions with locals—including a group from the Philippines—add a warm, human touch to the adventure, making Hong Kong feel both grand and intimately accessible.

I got French toast, a bolo bun, and milk tea for 81 Hong Kong dollars. It was very delicious and the locals were friendly.
Is the Mid-Levels escalator always going the same direction?
No, in the morning it goes down for commuters, but in the afternoon it swaps to go the other way. We had to take the stairs.
Was the climb up Victoria Peak difficult?
Yes, it was challenging with steep 80-degree parts, but handrails made it easier. Just don't wear a white shirt like I did!
