Homeless Pelican rolls into Chongqing with a simple mission: spend 48 hours inside the world's most viral megacity and somehow survive its mind-bending geography. Home to more than 32 million people, China's so-called 8D city feels like a cyberpunk fever dream—trains slicing through apartment towers, expressways stacked on top of expressways, and a skyline that makes other metropolises look frankly boring. From the opening moments, the video makes it clear that this is no ordinary city break. The traveler stands in what looks like an ordinary plaza, only to realize he's actually on the 22nd floor. That single reveal sets the tone for an itinerary packed with absurdist architecture and unforgettable local encounters.
The first major stop is Kuixing Building, where 'ground floor' proves to be a flexible concept. A casual walk across a bridge leads to the discovery that the plaza below is not street level at all but a high-rise rooftop. He jokes that the city ran out of room to grow outward, so it simply grew upward. The theme continues at Raffles City, an iconic ship-like complex of eight curved towers connected by a glass bridge. His upgraded hotel room comes with a private pool and million-dollar views, a moment that triggers a rare, heartfelt reflection on how far he's come from a small town in Poland.
Later, the adventure goes full throttle at Sujiaba Interchange, a giant spiral that lifts cars 70 meters into the air. The traveler convinces a local driver to take him across the famous bridge, a ride he compares to a roller coaster. With no GPS, the driver weaves through tunnels and elevated roads, earning a tip and a plum for making his passenger's dream come true. The segment is a perfect window into Chongqing's unofficial transport culture, where spontaneity and friendly negotiation open doors that formal tours never could.
Food plays a starring role. Street-side xiaomian—Chongqing noodles—become an instant favorite, loaded with Sichuan pepper oil, garlic, minced meat, and chickpeas. At 19.5 yuan for a heavy portion, it's a masterpiece of flavor and a reminder that the city's best experiences don't have to cost a fortune. But not everything shines. Hongya Cave, the city's most visited attraction, turns out to be so overcrowded that even the bridge leading to it takes 30 minutes to cross. He wisely skips the two-hour entry queue, capturing instead the chaos from the outside.
The wildest sequences involve a high-speed motorcycle photoshoot arranged by local businesses in front of Popo, where photographers teach him viral moves and edit the final clip on the spot. Then there's the legendary rooftop gas station, a once-viral spot that has become so famous that he gets kicked out before he can launch his drone. The video also visits Liziba Station, where a monorail runs directly through a 19-story residential building, complete with rubber tires and noise-dampening design. It's a real-life architectural meme, and he happily joins the crowds pretending to 'eat the train.'
As night falls, Chongqing transforms into its most cyberpunk self. Qiansimen Bridge lights up, while Deyi World's dense neon alleys feel like Shibuya on steroids. He even attempts to experience local nightlife by finding sand dance halls, a gray-area world of working girls and paid dances that offers an unfiltered, unexpected glimpse of the city after dark. After 48 hours, Homeless Pelican is exhausted but genuinely in love with the city, calling it the most viral place on Earth and a must-visit in China. The video leaves no doubt that Chongqing is as unreal as the internet promised.
Chongqing isn't just a city—it's a 32-million-person cyberpunk hallucination. In 48 hours, Homeless Pelican rides spiraling overpasses, watches monorails slice through apartment buildings, eats legendary xiaomian noodles, and chases viral spots from Kuixing Building to a rooftop gas station. With neon nightlife, kind locals, and architecture that defies logic, this is China's most unreal megacity—and the video proves it.
In 48 hours, a traveler explores Chongqing, China's 8D cyberpunk megacity—monorails through apartments, spiral bridges, spicy noodles, and neon nightlife.
Inside Chongqing China: 8D Cyberpunk Megacity in 48 Hours
1:47 Use Chongqing's wild floor numbering to your advantage. A restroom is in the hospital below the Kuixing Building plaza, but the hospital is on the ninth floor—while surgery happens on the 22nd. Always check the building's official floor indicator and ask locals before trusting street level.
8:56 Chongqing's metro is a social hub. The station featured in the video has 12 floors and restaurants inside, and you enter by scanning a QR code. It's one of the world's longest systems at 450 kilometers, with lines above and below the river. Use it to navigate city's vertical landscape.
10:27 To experience Sujiaba Interchange, flag down a local driver and negotiate a short ride across the spiral bridge. The traveler paid 35 yuan and tipped extra after his driver navigated without GPS. Be ready for a roller-coaster-like ascent as the road spirals 70 meters above the river.
13:24 Don't leave Chongqing without trying xiaomian, the city's signature noodles. A street-side set costs around 19.5 yuan and arrives with Sichuan pepper oil, garlic, minced meat, and chickpeas on top. Slurping is totally acceptable, and the soupy spice at the bottom is part of the experience.
17:06 The viral motorcycle photoshoot in front of Popo costs around 500 yuan and includes a photographer who teaches you poses and edits the video on the spot. It's expensive by local standards, but locals love it too and the result is a fun social-media souvenir of Chongqing's nightlife.
25:20 At Liziba Station, wait on the viewing platform and get ready for the famous 'eating the train' shot. Monorails arrive every two to three minutes and pass directly through a 19-story residential building. It was designed with noise-reducing tires, making the experience more comfortable for people living above.

The city ran out of space to grow out, so it grew up. I was standing on what looked like the ground floor, but it was actually the 22nd floor of Kuixing Building.
Is the metro in Chongqing easy to use?
You just scan a QR code to enter. The station I visited had 12 floors and was also a huge social hub with restaurants and shops inside.
Are Chongqing noodles worth trying?
Absolutely. Xiaomian with Sichuan pepper oil, garlic, minced meat, and chickpea is my favorite dish in China. A big portion cost me only 19.5 yuan and it was a 10 out of 10.
Can you visit the rooftop gas station?
It used to be an amazing viral spot, but it got too popular and I actually got kicked out. You can still see it from the residential area below, but don't plan on flying a drone there.
