Today I'm hiking the famous Dragon’s Back Trail in Wushan, China, in the spectacular Three Gorges region. The trail takes me high into the mountains, through clouds, rain, endless stairs and some incredible scenery.
I started the hike from the bottom and spent around 5 hours making my way up the Dragon’s Back. The weather wasn't exactly perfect, but that made the adventure even more interesting! The Dragon’s Back Trail reaches around 1,100 meters above sea level and offers incredible mountain views over Wushan and the surrounding Three Gorges landscape. And the best part? The hike itself is FREE!
After reaching the top, the adventure wasn't over. I still had to figure out how to get back to Wushan city… with no bus, no clear signs and very few people around. Luckily, I managed to find a ride back to the city.
If you're planning to visit Wushan, China, or explore the Three Gorges, this could be an amazing day hike to add to your itinerary.

AndreasTheGreat begins a hike in Wushan, China, on the Dragon’s Back Trail. He says the walk is free, though getting to a starting point requires a taxi; he suggests asking a hotel for help and mentions using Google Translate because he does not speak Chinese. The route has many stairs, and he passes a resting area with stalls that appear closed, then continues upward through clouds and rain. A sign marks progress on the route, and he says the trail reaches around 1,100 meters. He eventually sees the city and surrounding mountains when the clouds clear. After roughly five hours of walking, he reaches the end of the ridge route and turns to the return journey. He says he would choose a starting point farther along the trail next time and particularly enjoyed its final section. There are few signs and almost no other hikers on the way down, so he continues through farmland while looking for transport. He eventually finds a local ride back to Wushan, then reflects on the day and recommends the hike. The video description places the trail in the Three Gorges region and says it offers views over Wushan.
